Need advice please 2008/04/11 08:06
Dear All,

I would really like some help please, my sisters wedding is in a few weeks time, and a family member whom we love dearly has agreed to come, they have not been to any social occasions for a long time because of their weight, currently at over 30 stone, the church has small boxed in pews, and i am concered they will be unable to fit in, and if they can that the narrow pews may not take the weight.
I have tried to search for a chair hire company that can provide a chair which is comfortable, owing to servere back problems, and able to take the weight.
My main concern is after having them agree to come i don't want them to be caught out by seating embarassed and run off home to shut themselves away again, i just want to have a chair quitely sat there ready, no fuss and will put other family with them in chairs so they are not stuck out alone, i really want them to feel comfortable, happy with no embarassment, this really is the first time in a long time they have found the courage to come out i don't want them to end up regretting it - Please help, oh by the way i am in Kent England, have a funny feeling this is an American site, but have tried an internet search and only found ones to buy not hire, so any help would be much apprectiated, thank you

Thanks for your message - we're not an American site! Based in the North West of England we belong to Britain - hahaha

Anyway, as to your question re the large chairs. You could perhaps look up on the web for Bariatric furniture which is the medical term used to describe stuff for us fat folk!

I don't know of anyone who hire's it though, but you could also try asking at your local hospital.

Sadly we are often treated as disabled and therefore you may find you have to look for a needle in a haystack.

It may work for you or may not but last year Asda were selling the Fat Boy chair which I bought as I like to go camping. It's a fold up chair like the type fishermen use, but it's big! I really like it, its immensly strong and has not folded up underneath me but may not be suitable for a bad back.

It may be a good idea to speak with the person attending the wedding themselves and ask what they would prefer??? I know that probably seems difficult to you but it's my guess that they would rather you asked than went ahead and did something that they might be publicly upset by.

Please let us know how you get on.....

Regards
Vicki

further info.... 2008/05/03 20:13
Just spent some time searching the web and have come up with something which may be a short term solution.

http://www.1stcallmobility.co.uk/folding_shower_chair.htm

It is a stool but has a great weight loading and if it could be placed against a wall at the back of the church or somesuch may help you

I have no idea how much they would intend to charge you for it or if they would hire it....

Vicki
