A very clear opinion 2008/02/04 16:30
Dear Fatties,

I was directed to this page by a concerned colleague of mine this very afternoon and was shocked at what I saw. You realise that by condoning women of any age being morbidly obese is not only irresponsible, it's dangerous!

You and your friends are part of an increasing number of 'the fat' that seem to be all about empowering fat people. Whereas this is excellent if you place sufficient emphasis on reducing weight to sub-danger levels, if you convince people putting a substantial and constant strain on internal organs is a 'normal, healthy' thing, you're putting their lives at risk.

I'm also concerned about the message children are taking from this. There are already far too many obese people as it is. Around 3% of people in Britain are morbidly obese as a result of a condition or syndrome. This leaves a staggering 97% that either choose to be the size they are or are just too stupid to change their lifestyle for the better. If we continue to treat these people as a publicly acceptable section of society, we've giving our children the impression that this is 'OK', that it's 'normal'. This, again, is dangerous.

I hope you see the point I am trying to make and, while I'm sure you will still publish 'fattest' arguments, please consider all the people who have to live/work/socialise with the more easily exhausted and cumbersome members of society.

Well JU as a "former fatty" I would have thought that you would have exercised a lot more compasion towards fat people than you have. Instead of being critical about this site, can you not see that it exists to raise the confidence and general well being of people who suffer with their weight and so in turn giving them the confidence to be a part of society as opposed to hiding away within it,and in time being able to combat their fears and other peoples prejudices, if you truly have had serious weight issues in your life then I think you would have understood the reason that these people are fighting this fattism, I doubt your sincerety about your weight issues purely based on the fact that you cannot see that. Keep up the tremendous work Vicki and the girls!

Oh dear oh dear! We have been brainwashed haven't we JU!

Speaking as one of those alleged 3% with a medical condition (PCOS...look up symptoms if you don't believe me) I am frankly apalled at your lack of
a - compassion
b - understanding
c - good manners
d - intelligence

Fat people are NOT thick, many are NOT gluttonous, yet most are at least ridiculed/insulted/abused because of the way they look, they put up with bullying and are sometimes attacked purely because they are fat. This cannot be right in a supposedly enlightened society.

However, bigotted views like yours ensure that many people continue to comfort eat because of suffering attitudes like yours! Would you insult and abuse black/asian/orientals etc in this way? No, because you would be sued. So you pick on members of society who have no laws to protect them from abuse....YET.

JU, I suggest you grow up, get some intelligence and stop behaving like a born again non-smoker!

Oh and by the way, I understand that people should be encouraged (not bullied) to lead as healthy lifestyle as possibly...healthy does not necessarily mean 'thin'.
